In 2024, San Nicolao sheds its skin once again. It is not the first time, and perhaps this is its most authentic way of continuing to evolve. Once a disused space, it is transformed into an exhibition venue—a home for contemporary art that slips into the narrow streets of Bellano like a hidden room, a kind of medieval Kunsthaus. Every element intertwines, as if the space were never meant to reach a definitive form, but rather remain suspended in a state of continuous rewriting. San Nicolao interrupts itself, recomposes itself, and contradicts itself. It is not simply a building, but a field of experimentation and collisions between temporalities that do not follow one another in sequence, but instead press against each other spontaneously. The space undergoes a conservation restoration that does not conserve. Devoid of a final version, it unfolds through provisional configurations that replace one another over time. It is within this friction that its functions continue to regenerate. San Nicolao is not a place to be visited, but to be experienced as an endless vernissage, a perpetual exhibition, temporarily permanent.
